BREAK UPRIVER, 1997 42 x 56 cm
Collection of Inez and Nick Morgan
Hong Kong, China
The scene is uluupriver. Men rest after work in the dusunhere a plantation at the edge of the forest. The worn-out wood of the platform and the weathered skin of the men have the same satin-like reflection. The elderly man at the foreground gazes at another who washes a bunch of bananas in the river. He has not yet touched his provisions of daun nipah and black tobacco in the brass box visible in the crook of his arm.
