Some women in Terengganu, when working in the sun, especially on the beach, wear a kain sarong tied so as to protect their head and the nape of their neck. Others, like the elderly bespectacled town lady portrayed here, would hide her hair under a telekong (bonnet) before covering it with a veil. A merchant lady ties, Kelantan style, a sarong over her bonnet while her customer throws a long white veil down over her shoulders and her breast.
