A kain pelikat—man’s own sarong—is caught between a baju kurong—a woman’s modest dress—and an orange red kain batik. Such a close proximity is only possible for a reason. The reason is given by a silvery medallion at the centre of the first panel of the painting: three fresh mackerels have already been selected by a man—another kain pelikat—who holds his prize behind his back. The trio on the left bend in unison to find good ones like these.
